Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft drink created in the late 19th century by John Stith Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Originally marketed as a patent medicine, it was renamed Coca-Cola in 1886 and was sold for five cents a glass at soda fountains. The drink’s name refers to two of its original ingredients: coca leaves, which contain cocaine, and kola nuts, which contain caffeine.
