Amazon, Meta rethink US expansions.
Amazon is pressing pause on six new office buildings across the Nashville, Tennessee, area and near the company’s headquarters in Washington state, Reuters reports. The e-commerce giant says the move won’t affect hiring but will help ensure the buildings are suitable for a hybrid workforce. Amazon is also joining Meta in slowing their New York expansions, with Facebook’s parent company opting out of an addition to its largest office in the city and both companies halting further development in the new Hudson Yards office park, Bloomberg reports.
Salesforce recently put up around half of one of its San Francisco offices for lease as workers are slow to return to their desks.
Meta said it would bring on 30% fewer engineers, and Amazon has acknowledged that its warehouses are “overstaffed.”
