The Daily Scrum Is Not A Status Meeting
The daily scrum is an essential part of the Scrum framework, which is an agile methodology. It is a meeting for the development team members to inspect and adapt their work toward the sprint goal.
The daily scrum is not a status meeting; it is not for reporting, and only development team members participate. When the daily scrum becomes a status meeting, it loses its purpose, and the team becomes less self-organized and less in charge of their work. The daily scrum should optimize team collaboration and performance and increase the probability of meeting the sprint goal.
The Product Owner can clarify and re-negotiate the scope during the sprint but should not interfere with how the development team does their work. Scrum is easy to understand but challenging to implement, especially for the Product Owner. The purpose of the daily scrum is to inspect progress towards the sprint goal; it is a meeting by the development team for the development team.
