New Saudi cloud kitchen operator Matbakhi is partnering with hotels – and newbie chefs
Matbakhi wants to be an incubator to help chefs create ‘soulful brands.’
Matbakhi, a food tech company based in Saudi Arabia, plans to enter the online food ordering and delivery market by establishing cloud kitchens in the country. A cloud kitchen, also known as a virtual kitchen or ghost kitchen, is a restaurant that operates without a physical storefront and only serves customers through delivery or pickup, typically using third-party delivery services. Matbakhi plans to work with hotels that have underutilized in-house kitchens and incubate young chefs’ menus into their brands. The company aims to make high-quality food more accessible and convenient for consumers by delivering it to their homes or hotel rooms. According to a market report by Innovius Research, the online food delivery market in Saudi Arabia will be valued at $4.71 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.98% to reach $8.8 billion by 2028.
On the consumer side, in many countries in the region, average delivery times are still reaching one hour during peak hours. This not only reduces the quality of the food, but also directly affects the customer experience
