Sainsbury’s signs a deal with food delivery app Just Eat.
Home shopping partnership comes despite the demand for fast delivery services slowing amid the cost of living crisis.
Sainsbury’s has signed a deal with Just Eat to offer rapid grocery delivery from 175 stores.
Outlets in London, Edinburgh, and Bristol will provide the service from the end of February, offering a choice of 3,000 items delivered in less than 30 minutes. Sainsbury’s already provides its Chop Chop fast delivery service and has partnerships with Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
Just Eat has also partnered with Asda and the Co-op to deliver groceries, while all three grocery chains are already working with Deliveroo alongside Morrisons and Waitrose.
Grocery delivery boomed during the pandemic but has since seen consolidation as households aim to save money by picking up goods. Sainsbury’s reported a 10% decrease in online grocery sales over Christmas, while Tesco’s was down just under 1%.
However, a market still exists for fast-track delivery, with Tesco’s Whoosh service seeing a boom in demand during the World Cup. Other companies like Getir and Gopuff have also been successful in the fast-track delivery market.
