Bobby Fischer solves a 15 puzzle in 17 seconds on Carson Tonight Show

Bobby Fischer

Bobby Fischer was an American chess grandmaster and the 11th World Chess Champion. He is widely considered one of the greatest chess players of all time. Fischer was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1943. He learned chess at a young age and quickly became one of the top players in the United States. In 1957, at 14, he became the youngest-ever U.S. chess champion.

Fischer’s chess career reached its peak in 1972 when he won the World Chess Championship by defeating the Soviet grandmaster Boris Spassky in a highly publicized match held in Reykjavik, Iceland. This match, which took place during the height of the Cold War, was seen as a symbolic victory for the West over the Soviet Union. Fischer’s win made him a celebrity and he became one of the best-known chess players in the world.

After winning the World Championship, Fischer had a tumultuous career and personal life. He became known for his erratic behavior and controversial statements and withdrew from competitive chess for many years. In 1992, he returned to the chess world to play a rematch against Spassky, but the match was not held under the auspices of FIDE, the international chess federation, and Fischer was accused of violating international sanctions against Yugoslavia, where the match took place. Fischer avoided prosecution by remaining abroad and eventually settled in Hungary, where he lived until his death in 2008.
