Fast food future? Las Vegas Taco Bell dumps dine-in
A new Taco Bell restaurant in the Las Vegas valley is changing the fast food industry with its innovative approach to the drive-thru. The location opened about a month ago and is a “grab and go” site with two drive-thru lanes, one of which is exclusively for delivery drivers. Unlike most Taco Bell restaurants, it does not have a dining room, making it smaller and more efficient. The Diversified Restaurant Group operates the new location, and its Chief Operating Officer, Todd Kelly, says sales have increased each week since the store’s opening.
According to Kelly, 83% of Taco Bell’s business comes from drive-thrus, with delivery business accounting for 15%. The dining room is becoming obsolete, as the new location allows for a smaller footprint, lower costs, and faster customer service. The restaurant’s innovative design has garnered attention from competitors visiting the site to see the cutting-edge concept.
In addition to the drive-thru, the location also features a patio outside for customers who prefer to park and eat out. Taco Bell has also added walk-up windows at several locations and a two-story “cantina” on the Las Vegas Strip that is extremely popular, hosting 30 weddings a month during a slow month. The new drive-thru location’s success and other innovations make Kelly optimistic about the future of Taco Bell and the fast food industry.
