Barcelona bans grocery delivery companies and dark stores.
Barcelona has approved a ban on “dark stores,” distribution centers used by grocery delivery companies, to preserve traditional neighborhood stores and residents’ quality of life. The ban will affect the local delivery app Glovo, which has eight dark stores in the city, and 21 dark stores. Glovo has not yet commented on the ban. Uber Eats does not have dark stores in Barcelona. Barcelona also approved a measure to locate “dark kitchens” that produce food for delivery only in a suburban industrial district. Other European cities, such as Amsterdam, have also restricted dark stores.
