Getir is a Turkish company that launched its service in 2015 and has since expanded to multiple European and US countries. The acquisition comes as the rapid grocery delivery industry has faced challenges in 2022, including a reduction in venture capital funding and restrictions on dark stores in some cities. The COVID-19 pandemic had previously led to rapid growth in the industry as people turned to online grocery orders due to lockdown restrictions. Getir’s founder, Nazim Salur, stated that the super-fast grocery delivery industry would steadily grow in the coming years and that Getir will lead the category.
