Leadership Shuffle at Getir: UK Boss Chris Chaaya Departs
Amidst a turbulent period for the rapid grocery delivery company Getir, Chris Chaaya, the UK boss, has exited. Before his tenure at Getir, Chaaya held the position of UK boss at Gorillas, which was acquired by Getir in a £1bn deal last year. Since the acquisition in January 2023, Chaaya has been steering the company and overseeing the integration of Gorillas into Getir.
This leadership change coincides with a challenging phase for Getir, marked by mass redundancies that affected approximately 300 employees. Additionally, the company recently shut down several of its “dark stores” across various locations, including Wales, South West England, Birmingham, and London. These closures were attributed to optimizing the combined store network post the Gorillas acquisition.
Chris Chaaya, who has been leading Gorillas since 2021, will venture into his own business, effective 1 July. Karthik Harith, the former general manager of Getir’s German operations, will be stepping into his shoes. With his prior experience in Getir’s UK expansion and a significant role in its pan-European partnership with Eat, Harith is expected to spearhead Getir’s strategic growth in the UK. Before joining Getir, Harith had a stint at The Kraft Heinz Company, leading the baby and frozen food categories.
